NEW LONDON, CT – An Amtrak passenger train derailed in New London, CT on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 as it was arriving at Union Station. Apparently there was only one passenger car involved in the incident. According to reports, there was no one on the train at the time.

LOUISVILLE, KY – A CSX train derailed on Friday night, January 14, at about 10:30 p.m. at LaGrange Road and Chamberlain Lane, near the Ford Truck Plant in east Louisville KY.

FT. WORTH, TX – BNSF has issued a news release in response to an investigative report about BNSF’s conduct in grade crossing and railroad employee safety issues reported by The Minneapolis Star Tribune, calling the report bias.

COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA – An Iowa Interstate Railroad employee from Omaha was injured early Thursday morning, January 6, after becoming stuck between a guardrail and a train car at the MidAmerican power plant south of Council Bluffs.

The railroad worker who was injured was identified as 28-year old Michael McGillen, Junior.  McGillen was taken by medical helicopter to the Creighton University Medical Center in critical condition after rescue officials arrived at about 3 a.m., according to Dwayne Riche of the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office. ... SUGAR CREEK, MO – It was around 1:00 am Saturday morning, July 3, when a witness reported a train derailment in Sugar Creek, Missouri. Seventeen cars derailed and six cars overturned. One car that carried a chemical called Toluene was ignited which caused the rail car to explode.
