LITTLE ROCK, AR – A Union Pacific train derailed near Little Rock Central High School on Sunday morning, November 14. Nine cars derailed near West 17th Street about 10:20 a.m., Capt. Edwin Woolf of the Little Rock Fire Department said. Emergency crews were dispatched immediately.

According to an article at INFORUM, Amy McBeth, BNSF’s director of public affairs, said the company is in the process of adding about 50 new jobs in North Dakota. Some of those have been filled, and a second round of hiring is set for early 2011. The company began the hiring push in August, 2010. BNSF employs about two-thirds of North Dakota’s 2,000 rail workers.

HAMILTON, MS. – A 110 car freight train traveling through Hamilton, Mississippi derailed Monday morning October 25th, according to authorities. Three of the cars were carrying hydrogen peroxide which forced the evacuation of some nearby residents. Hazardous material teams from Columbus AFB and Columbus were called to the scene.
