MCBEAN, GA – A Norfolk Southern train derailed on September 17, when a semi truck crashed into it in Burke County, GA. McBean is located in Richmond County, Georgia in the eastern part of the state. The accident site was in Burke County, GA near the Richmond County line about 17.6 miles southeast of Augusta.
CLEVELAND, NC – One person was injured on September 23 when a Norfolk Southern train collided with a dump truck in Cleveland, NC. Cleveland is located in Rowan County, in the west-central part of the state about 141 miles west of Raleigh.
COURTLAND, VA – Two railroad workers were injured on September 19, in a fiery CSX train derailment in Courtland, VA. after 9 rail cars and 2 locomotives from a 41 car CSX train jumped the tracks. Diesel fuel from a punctured tank created a large fuel spill which ignited and burst into flames. An engineer & a conductor in one of the locomotives became trapped in a tangle of rail cars and had to be rescued by emergency crews at the scene.
GREENWICH TOWNSHIP, NJ – An empty tanker car derailed in Greenwich Township raising concerns of hazardous chemicals for local residents. Greenwich Township is in Gloucester County in the southern part of the state about 50 miles southwest of Trenton.
MONROE TOWNSHIP, PA – A Norfolk Southern train derailed on September 12, 2013 after a crash with a tractor trailer in Monroe Township, PA. Monroe Township is located in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania in the southern central part of the state about 17 miles southwest of Harrisburg.
LONGVIEW, TX – Two rail tankers, containing hazardous material, jumped the tracks and overturned, causing a spill after a BNSF train derailed in Longview, TX. The city of Longview is located in Gregg County, (and partly in Harrison County) in the eastern part of the state.
MATHIS, TX – One Union Pacific Railroad employee was killed and another critically injured while doing maintenance on a rail bridge just north of Mathis, TX on September 4.
WASHINGTON, DC – A Metro Red Line train derailed in Washington, DC just after midnight on August 30, causing delays for passengers. The Metro Red Line is operated by the Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority, the agency for Metrorail, located in DC.
