FAYETTE COUNTY, WV – A CSX five car coal train derailed Thursday March 3 around 8:45 a.m. near Springdale WV closing a section of Route 20. Springdale is located in Fayette County about 7 miles from Wheeling.

Authorities with the Fayette County Emergency Operations Center told the media that the train did not flip over, and no injuries were reported.

Route 20 was re-opened late Thursday night, but authorities were still working on getting the train back on its tracks.

The cause of the incident remains under investigation.

Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that the retaining wall, built in 1901, collapsed late Wednesday night, but it wasn’t reported until Thursday morning, City Manager Rick Stadler said.
