NEW ORLEANS, La. – A man who shot a Jefferson Parish deputy Wednesday night is the main suspect in the fatal shooting of a CSX train conductor on Father’s Day, according to New Orleans police (Source: Nola.com).
Byron Ross, 23, was arrested after the shooting of JPSO Detective Solomon Burke when Burke tried to execute a search warrant at the LaBella Motel on Jefferson Highway.
Ross shot Burke through the door, striking him in the side, authorities said. Burke was protected by his bulletproof vest.
Ross is being held in Jefferson Parish on charges of attempted murder of a police officer and possession of stolen property.
Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand and New Orleans Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas appeared at a news conference Thursday morning to announce the break in the cases. They said they were able to link the firearm that Ross had in his possession to Sunday’s murder of CSX conductor Fred Gibbs, and that the gun used in both shootings was stolen from a pawn shop near the hotel. ... JACKSON TOWNSHIP, IN – A CSX train derailed in Jackson Township, Indiana on Wednesday, June 16, 2020, then a worker was killed when a crane toppled onto him a day later during the cleanup effort.
Jackson Township is located in Porter County in the northwestern part of the state, about 25 miles east of Gary, Indiana and about 158 miles northwest of Indianapolis.

OLD FORT, NC – A Norfolk Southern train moving about a mile away from the Pisgah National Forest derailed just before 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 17, 2010 spilling 3,000 gallons of diesel fuel. The mishap occurred just west of Old Fort, NC while heading west up the Old Fort Mountain.

NORFOLK, NE – The funeral service for 38-year-old Jeffery Scholl of Norfolk, who died when floodwaters collapsed a bridge over the Elkhorn River, has been set for Tuesday, June 22, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Petersburg. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Scholl was among three Nebraska Central Railroad workers checking on the railroad bridge in Norfolk last Tuesday when it collapsed, throwing them into the fast-moving current. Two of the workers were pulled out of the river alive. CITY PARK, La. – Members of the New Orleans Police Department are investigating the apparent shooting death of a 52-year-old male. The victim was a CSX train conductor who was murdered in a train robbery attempt near City Park early Sunday morning.
According to investigators, Third District officers responded to a call of “shots fired”, and upon their arrival found the victim lying inside an Intermodal Freight Train suffering from apparent multiple gunshot wounds to the body. ... Read More

NORFOLK, NE – A Nebraska Central Railroad worker went missing after a bridge collapsed over the Elkhorn River in southwest Norfolk, Nebraska. The incident occurred in the afternoon around 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 15, 2010, while three railroad employees were inspecting the bridge for damage after the recent floodwaters in the area.

Liberty, SC – A Norfolk Southern train derailed in Liberty, SC on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at about 4:30 p.m. A toxic substance was spilled from a tanker in the mishap but the spill was contained by Hazmat teams. Twenty-four freight cars were involved in the derailment and were damaged as a result.

Conner, 54 years old, from Spring Grove, VA. The accident happened shortly after 10:00 a.m. while Connor was working in a rail yard alongside the tracks.

SMITHSBURG, MD — A CSX train that was travelling from Hanover to Hagerstown, Maryland derailed in Smithsburg around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 8, 2010. The derailment occurred just past the rail crossing at Maple Ave. where the train hit a track switch causing the end cars to become unbalanced and derail.
