SUGAR CREEK, MO – It was around 1:00 am Saturday morning, July 3, when a witness reported a train derailment in Sugar Creek, Missouri. Seventeen cars derailed and six cars overturned. One car that carried a chemical called Toluene was ignited which caused the rail car to explode.

JACKSON TOWNSHIP, IN – A CSX train derailed in Jackson Township, Indiana on Wednesday, June 16, 2020, then a worker was killed when a crane toppled onto him a day later during the cleanup effort.
Jackson Township is located in Porter County in the northwestern part of the state, about 25 miles east of Gary, Indiana and about 158 miles northwest of Indianapolis.

OLD FORT, NC – A Norfolk Southern train moving about a mile away from the Pisgah National Forest derailed just before 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 17, 2010 spilling 3,000 gallons of diesel fuel. The mishap occurred just west of Old Fort, NC while heading west up the Old Fort Mountain.

Liberty, SC – A Norfolk Southern train derailed in Liberty, SC on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at about 4:30 p.m. A toxic substance was spilled from a tanker in the mishap but the spill was contained by Hazmat teams. Twenty-four freight cars were involved in the derailment and were damaged as a result.

DOSWELL, VA – A CSX employee was killed after being struck by a train in Doswell, Virginia on Thursday, June 10, 2010. The victim has been identified as Marshall W. Conner, 54 years old, from Spring Grove, VA. The accident happened shortly after 10:00 a.m. while Connor was working in a rail yard alongside the tracks.

The derailment occurred just past the rail crossing at Maple Ave. where the train hit a track switch causing the end cars to become unbalanced and derail.

CLEVELAND, NC – A tractor-trailer collided with a Norfolk Southern train in Cleveland, North Carolina on June 7, 2010. The truck driver was injured but at this time there are no reports if any railroad workers sustained injuries as a result of this incident. The accident occurred in front of Shaver Wood Products in Rowan County at about 10:30 in the morning near Statesville Boulevard (U.S. 70). KEARNY, NJ — A New Jersey Transit worker died after he was struck by a wayward locomotive in a railroad maintenance yard in Kearny, New Jersey early Monday morning, June 1, 2010 around 3:30 a.m. The railroad worker who was killed was identified as 63-year-old NJ Transit worker, Greg Kastner.
Kastner’s job was to help shuttle engines in the Meadows Maintenance Facility which is located in Kearny, New Jersey, about 5 miles just outside New York City. The Meadows Maintenance Facility yard is located off the Newark Turnpike (NJ 7), adjacent to the Conrail South Kearny yard. ... Read More

CHATTANOOGA, TN – The Federal Railroad Administration is investigating the May 23 CSX train derailment in Chattanooga, Tennessee, which happened at about 4:30 p.m. near the 3200 block of Broad Street. Officials may also be looking at the steadily rising number of accidents in the area.
