SHEFFIELD VILLAGE, OH – A Norfolk Southern train crash derailed twenty-six cars  Tuesday morning, November 16, at approximately 7:05 a.m. near the railroad yard between Harris and Abbe roads. The Sheffield Village Fire Department is monitoring cleanup efforts at the scene. Norfolk Southern officials indicated crews would be working for 12 to 18 hours to clean up the scene of the crash.

The derailment was confirmed by SVFD Chief Jeffrey Young in a news released faxed to Fox 8 News. SOUTH BOSTON, VA – A Norfolk Southern train derailed Wednesday afternoon, October 6, in the South Boston railroad yard, according to Norfolk Southern officials. Three locomotives were returning to the South Boston yard from the Mayo Power Plant at 5:30 p.m. when one derailed in the yard.

Byron Ross, 23, was arrested and charged for the murder of 52-year-old train conductor Frederick Gibbs

NEW ORLEANS, La. – A man who shot a Jefferson Parish deputy Wednesday night is the main suspect in the fatal shooting of a CSX train conductor on Father’s Day, according to New Orleans police (Source: Nola.com).

Byron Ross, 23, was arrested after the shooting of JPSO Detective Solomon Burke when Burke tried to execute a search warrant at the LaBella Motel on Jefferson Highway.

Ross shot Burke through the door, striking him in the side, authorities said. Burke was protected by his bulletproof vest.

Ross is being held in Jefferson Parish on charges of attempted murder of a police officer and possession of stolen property.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand and New Orleans Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas appeared at a news conference Thursday morning to announce the break in the cases. They said they were able to link the firearm that Ross had in his possession to Sunday’s murder of CSX conductor Fred Gibbs, and that the gun used in both shootings was stolen from a pawn shop near the hotel. ... OLD FORT, NC – A Norfolk Southern train moving about a mile away from the Pisgah National Forest derailed just before 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 17, 2010 spilling 3,000 gallons of diesel fuel. The mishap occurred just west of Old Fort, NC while heading west up the Old Fort Mountain.

CITY PARK, La. – Members of the New Orleans Police Department are investigating the apparent shooting death of a 52-year-old male. The victim was a CSX train conductor who was murdered in a train robbery attempt near City Park early Sunday morning.
