CHARLES CITY, IA – Three railroad workers had to be rescued on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 after five rail cars of a Canadian Pacific train derailed just east of Charles City, IA. The city of Charles City is located in Floyd County, Iowa in the northern part of the state about 104 miles northwest of Cedar Rapids.
BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. — A Norfolk Southern railroad worker was killed after he was trapped in a mudslide while checking track conditions on Old Fort Mountain a few miles outside of Black Mountain, North Carolina.

EL PASO, Texas — A Union Pacific train derailed just before noon on Saturday afternoon on Saturday, March 23, in South El Paso, Texas.
NORTH ZULCH, Texas — A BNSF freight train traveling southbound derailed and collided with a Sanderson Farms chicken truck carrying live chickens in Madison County Texas between North Zulch and Normange. The driver of the truck was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan in stable condition.
SEATTLE, Wash. – In an OSHA Regional News release dated Feb 28, 2013, The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has found that Union Pacific Railroad’s Pocatello, Idaho, operations violated the whistle-blower protection provisions of the Federal Railroad Safety Act and has ordered the railroad to pay more than $309,000 in back wages, benefits, damages and reasonable attorney’s fees to a conductor after determining retaliation for reporting a co-worker’s work-related injury.

FORT WAYNE, IN. — An OSHA investigation found that a Ft. Wayne crane operator, employed by Norfolk Southern, was wrongfully fired for reporting workplace injuries. OSHA has ordered Norfolk Southern railroad to expunge the disciplinary record of the railroad worker, to reinstate the employee it fired and to pay him nearly $438,000 in damages.

GORE, W.Va. — A railroad worker was struck in the head on Sunday, Feb. 10, by a crane at the site of a CSX train derailment that occurred on Saturday in Gore, West Virginia, where a CSX locomotive and about five freight cars carrying coal derailed because of a rock slide.
