WELLINGTON, KS — The town of Wellington, Kansas, has rallied around Kevin Beggs, 45, a well-known resident of Wellington. Beggs, a BNSF railroad employee, was injured over a month ago on July 9, 2013, when he was pinned under the wheels of a rail car with critical injuries to his lower legs. It took 45 minutes to extricate him from under the rail car.
FAYETTEVILLE, NC – A CSX train derailed in Fayetteville, NC on July 31 causing 4 rail cars of a 10-car train to jump the tracks. None of the derailed cars overturned. Fayetteville is located in Cumberland County, North Carolina in the south-central part of the state about 65 miles southwest of Raleigh and about 89 miles northwest of Wilmington, NC.
PORT OF TAMPA, Fla. — Tampa Bay firefighters used foam to clean up ethanol that leaked from three rail cars after an 81-car CSX train derailed at Florida’s Port of Tampa. Hazmat-trained firefighters have laid a coating of foam on top of the spill to keep it from catching fire. Equipment is being transported from Atlanta to upright the toppled railroad cars.
ALEDO, TX – The media reported that a railroad worker was injured in a Union Pacific train derailment in Aledo, TX on July 18, 2013. Two locomotives and seven rail cars jumped the tracks while the train was entering the main line off a side track that runs parallel to the main line.

Less than three weeks after a Metro-North train struck and killed a railroad worker near West Haven, Federal investigators on Monday, June 17, issued an “urgent safety recommendation” saying the railroad should act quickly and start using a basic safety device to protect workers on its tracks. Metro-North railroad said they will implement a pilot program of using a shunting system to increase the safety of workers on the tracks.
ROSEDALE, MD – A CSX train, carrying chemicals, ran into a trash truck in Rosedale, MD and then derailed and exploded causing a shock wave that sent a huge plume of black smoke into the sky. Rosedale is located in Baltimore County, MD in the northern part of the state about 6 miles northeast of Baltimore.
ROCKVIEW, MO – A 75-car BNSF train carrying scrap metal was broadsided by a Union Pacific train hauling auto parts at a rail intersection in Rockview, MO on May 25, 2013. The accident injured two railroad workers and several motorists. Rockview is located in Scott County, MO in the southeastern part of the state about 126 miles southeast of St. Louis.
