FAYETTE COUNTY, WV – A CSX five car coal train derailed Thursday March 3 around 8:45 a.m. near Springdale WV closing a section of Route 20. Springdale is located in Fayette County about 7 miles from Wheeling.
Authorities with the Fayette County Emergency Operations Center told the media that the train did not flip over, and no injuries were reported.
Route 20 was re-opened late Thursday night, but authorities were still working on getting the train back on its tracks.
The cause of the incident remains under investigation.

LATROBE, PA - Norfolk Southern railroad workers arrived Thurday morning, March 3, to begin clearing debris after a large section of a retaining wall that supports railroad tracks at the intersection of Jefferson and Railroad streets in Latrobe collapsed. Latrobe ia approximately 50 miles from Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that the retaining wall, built in 1901, collapsed late Wednesday night, but it wasn’t reported until Thursday morning, City Manager Rick Stadler said. UNIVERSITY PLACE, WA. – A BNSF train derailed around 8:00 pm Saturday night, February 26, near Chambers Bay golf course in University Place, Washington. The accident sent four tankers filled with sodium hydroxide onto the beach, spilling about 50 gallons of lye.
A northbound freight train with two locomotives and 109 cars was on the tracks when it derailed. All but 11 cars, including six tanker cars, were empty. Train crews from from Tacoma, Olympia, Seattle, Pasco and Salem, Ore were on the scene of the accident within 30 minutes to contain the spill. ... Read More

AMARILLO, TX – A railroad employee who worked for BNSF was injured on Tuesday, February 22, when a railroad tank released sulfuric acid. The accident occurred at 1900 S. Johnson St. and the vapors escaped the tank about 9:35 a.m., Fire Capt. Wes Hall said.
