Houston, TX — A Union Pacific train traveling west in Houston on Monday, June 10, collided with a big rig and knocked it over after the semi tried to cross the tracks.

A semi truck was knocked over onto its side after colliding with a Union Pacific train at the Sherwin St rail crossing in Houston, TX on June 10, 2013.

The crash happened around 7 a.m. at the Sherwin St rail crossing just north of the Katy Freeway (I-10). The semi truck was going south on Sherwin St and appeared to be crossing the tracks when the collision occurred. The force of the collision knocked the big rig over and tore open the trailer. The accident blocked traffic for hours at several intersections due to the length of the train.

There were warning signs at the crossing indicating that a tractor trailer could bottom out on the tracks and that there was one way traffic up ahead.

The truck belongs to Barnes Transportation Services out of Wilson, NC.
