Author: TEHACHAPI Calif. — A northbound Union Pacific train derailed on Sunday, April 7, near Tehachapi, California. Union Pacific crews worked through Sunday to clear the railroad tracks about a quarter mile east of the cable crossovers near Tehachapi.

The accident occurred on at 1 a.m. Sunday, April 7, in an area with two parallel lines of track where the northbound train dumped 18 of its cars on the ground and tore up portions of the track and that as of 7 p.m. Sunday one line remained open while cleanup crews worked to clear the other, according to Union Pacific Spokesman Aaron Hunt.

The media reported that all of the derailed cars were empty at the time of the incident and that no injuries were reported at the time of the derailment.
The incident remains under investigation at this time.
