Author: SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A train derailment rattled the neighborhood in southwest Bexar County Thursday morning, March 22, after a Union Pacific train derailed causing damage to a family’s home.
A Union Pacific train derailment happened March 22, 2013 in the 7500 block of Old Pearsall Road about 15.7 miles southwest of San Antonio and 2.8 miles notheast of Southwest San Antonio.
According to Stacia Wilson at KENS5 News, the impact ws so forceful that it shook several homes even causing some damage to property. Now neighbors are demanding action.
The derailment happened in the 7500 block of Old Pearsall Road about 15.7 miles southwest of San Antonio and 2.8 miles notheast of Southwest San Antonio.
A resident told the media that the accident happened around 10:30 a.m.and left about four boxcars jumbled up near the backyard of his home in the 7500 block of Old Pearsall Road. He said the sound was so loud it broke the glass in several of his windows.
This is not the first train accident that has jolted this neighborhood. The sound also brought back terrifying memories of June 27, 2004. That’s when two Union Pacific trains collided, sending out a toxic plume of chlorine gas and ammonium nitrate into the air.
Three people died as a result of the accident, another 50 were sent to the hospital for treatment.
The current incident remains under investigation at this time.
