Author: ROANOKE, Va. — Three Norfolk Southern trains derailed on Monday morning, September 10, in Roanoke, Va. spilling about 1,500 gallons of diesel fuel.

The accident happened at around 4 a.m. Monday morning in the Norfolk Southern rail yard near 5th St NW and Shenandoah Ave NW when one of the three locomotives that derailed spilled the diesel fuel.

Norfolk Southern crews arrived on the scene to put the engines back on the rails and to clean up the spill. No railroad worker injuries were reported at the time of the accident.
The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
