HARPURSVILLE, NY — A Canadian Pacific railroad worker was electrocuted on August 26, 2013, while inspecting a rail bridge in Harpursville, NY. The city of Harpursville is located in Broome County in the central part of the state about 121 miles southwest of Albany.

The railroad worker was identified as 39 year-old Thomas F. Tarchak from Simpson, PA.

The accident happened around 11:11 a.m. Monday morning on August 26, 2013, when Tarchak was electrocuted while conducting an inspection of a rail bridge near Route 235 and Route 7 in Harpursville.

Tarchak was part of a four person crew when the lift bucket he was working in came into contact with a high power line. Officials believe he was killed instantly, but will know more after an autopsy is performed.

The incident is currently under investigation at this time.
