WELLINGTON, KS – A BNSF railroad worker was critically injured after getting pinned under the wheels of a rail car in Wellington, KS on July 9, 2013. Wellington is located in Sumner County, KS in the southern part of the state about 35 miles south of Wichita near the northern border of Oklahoma.

The victim was identified as 45 year-old Kevin Beggs, from Wellington. The accident occurred at about 2:20 a.m. on July 9, when Beggs was found pinned under the wheels of a railcar with critical injuries to his lower legs. It took 45 minutes to extricate him from under the rail car. The exact cause of the accident is not known.

Wellington Fire Chief Tim Hay commented on the incident:

“We don’t know if he was struck and knocked down or fell from the rail car, or what exactly happened.”

The incident remains under investigation at this time.
