CHICAGO, Ill. — The Chicago Tribune reported that the Brown and Red line trains are running again but with delays, after a car derailed on the Red Line near Armitage Avenue on Thursday, May 9, halting trains and sending at least one person to the hospital.

According to officials, the accident occurred Thursday morning, May 9, at 11:20 a.m. on a southbound train near the Armitage station. One car near the rear left the tracks. The CTA reported that service was restored at about 3 p.m., but warned of delays.

The CTA and the Chicago Fire Department reported that more than 60 people were evacuated while crews worked on the car. Two people were taken off by rescue chairs and one by an elevated bucket, Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said. At least one person was taken to a hospital apparently suffering from anxiety.

No railroad worker injuries were reported at the time of the incident.

The incident remains under investigation at this time.
