ASH FORK, Ariz. — A railroad worker employed by Burlington Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) was killed on Friday, July 27, after he drove a high-rail truck into a parked freight train in northern, Arizona.

A BNSF railroad worker was killed on July 27, 2012 when a maintenance truck he drove crashed into a parked freight train. The truck was fitted with an attachment for running on rail tracks.

According to Coconino County Sheriff’s officials, the accident occurred about 6:30 a.m. on Friday, July 27, about 14 miles north of Ash Fork. The city of Ash Fork is located about 53 miles west of Flagstaff.

According to the Arizona Daily Sun, the victim was identified as 41-year-old Jason Lacy of Williams, Arizona.

Authorities told the media that the truck Lacy was driving was equipped with a special attachment that allows it to be operated on the rails and that Lacy was responsible for monitoring and maintaining the tracks.

Officials said that the evidence at the scene indicated that the truck ran directly into the rear of the train’s last freight car. Lacy was declared dead at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation at this time.
