BOONE, IA – A railroad worker had an arm amputated following a train accident in Boone, IA on May 23, 2011.

Boone is located in Boone County, Iowa in the central part of the state about 50 miles northwest of Des Moines.

The railroad worker whose name has not been identified, is reported to work for the Union Pacific Railroad.

The accident occurred around 4:30 a.m. on Monday in the Boone rail yard near the south end. The railroad worker was getting off a locomotive and was hit by a passing train.

The railroad worker, whose name is not being released by Union Pacific, was seriously injured and was airlifted to a hospital in Des Moines.

The accident is currently under investigation.
