Elsmere is located in New Castle County, Delaware in the northern part of the state, about 4 miles southwest of Wilmington.

The fire occurred in the CSX rail yard in the 300 block of Tammarac Ave. just after 1:00 a.m. Sunday morning.

The Five Points Fire Company out of New Castle County plus the Elsmere fire companies were called in to battle the blaze, which took about 50 minutes to bring under control.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported and no railroad workers were injured as a result of the incident. Also there were no hazardous materials involved so no one had to be evacuated.

According to reports, the boxcar was filled with pallets and trash. The damage was estimated to be around $20,000.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time and is currently under investigation by the railroad company, fire marshal and local police.
