GEORGETOWN, SC – A motor home collided with a CSX train Monday morning, November 22, 7 miles north of Georgetown County, South Carolina killing the passenger of the RV.

The collision happened at approximately 9:00 am between Andrews and Georgetown on Highway 521 just before 17-A near 9 Mile Curve.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the driver of the motor home ignored warning lights and crashed into a crossing gate. The CSX train then slammed into the RV, killing the passenger.

Georgetown County Coroner Kenny Johnson says the woman killed in the crash was Carol Walker of Hobe Sound, Florida. Johnson is still trying to determine her age.

Her husband who was the driver was taken to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

EMS workers waiting at the railroad crossing saw the crash and tried to help the victims until firefighters arrived.

The driver and passenger of the RV were hearing impaired. The RV had a Florida license plate.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
